Chhattisgarh Election Results 2023 Highlights: The BJP’s ‘Modi ki Guarantee’ pitch turned the contest in Chhattisgarh around leading the saffron party to a decisive victory. Successfully making a comeback, the BJP secured an absolute majority winning 54 seats while the Congress trailed at 35 seats. Defying exit polls that predicted a clear edge for the Congress, the BJP unseated the CM Bhupesh Baghel-led government in the tribal-dominated state.

While the BJP promised the upliftment of the tribal, poor, women and farmers, the Baghel-led Congress , in its campaign, banked on the welfare schemes where they said to have spent Rs 1.75 lakh crore. The BJP’s campaign saw star campaigners including PM Modi targeting the Baghel government over the Enforcement Directorate (ED) cases like coal levy, illegal liquor sale and Mahadev app.

Ahead of the state assembly elections, held in two phases on November 7 and 17, the Congress party was a divided house in Chhattisgarh but it tried to gloss over the differences by elevating state minister T S Singh Deo, the main challenger to CM Bhupesh Baghel, as the Deputy Chief Minister in June this year. The BJP, on the other hand, went into the elections without a clear candidate for the CM’s post.
