The BJP has slammed the Congress for an apparent Nobel Peace Prize nomination demand for Leader of Opposition in Lok Sabha Rahul Gandhi. Soon after the 2025 Nobel Peace Prize went to Maria Corina Machado for her relentless campaign against oppression and bolstering the democratic system in Venezuela, Congress leader Surendra Rajput posted on X: "This year's Nobel Peace Prize has been awarded to the Leader of the Opposition in Venezuela for defending the constitution. The Leader of Opposition in India, Rahul Gandhi, is fighting the battle to save the country's constitution." pic.twitter.com/xcgfkJixlZ — Surendra Rajput (@ssrajputINC) October 10, 2025 The party, though, has not made any such official demand. 'Rahul Gandhi murdered democracy' However, the BJP targeted Rahul Gandhi and the Congress over Rajput's post. Calling the mention of Rahul Gandhi in the post "bizarre", BJP's national spokesperson Shehzad Poonawalla said: "Bizarre Congress is demanding Nobel Prize for Rahul Baba He would get it if there one meant for 1) hypocrisy 2) lying 3) losing elections 99 times ! 4) murdering democracy and constitution in 1975 and 1984 [sic]."
