BJP Lok Sabha MP and former Tripura chief minister Biplab Kumar Deb Monday launched a scathing attack on Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) leader Arvind Kejriwal, describing him as “a carbon copy of the Communists” and the “most disgraceful politician” in India’s history.

“I saw Kejriwal before returning from Delhi to Tripura in 2014 and recognised his type. I came from a state that Communists ruled for decades, and I could tell that he (Kejriwal) was a carbon copy of them (Communists). (He) keeps on lying and misleading people. The people of Delhi fell for it. He is the most disgraceful politician in the history of India,” Deb said while speaking during a programme felicitating students who passed the board exams at B R Ambedkar High School at Kamalasagar in the Sepahijala district.

Further attacking Kejriwal, Deb said the former Delhi chief minister’s politics is based on betrayal and deception, claiming that no other politician has lied and spread negativity like him.

Deb did not spare the Leader of Opposition in the Lok Sabha, Rahul Gandhi, either. “Those who want to dream will become like (Prime Minister) Narendra Modi. Those who only look up to their mothers will become like Rahul Gandhi. I dreamed of becoming Tripura’s chief minister and made that happen. In 2014, I also wanted to give a challenge to Kejriwal, and I got that opportunity recently,” said Deb, who was a major figure in the BJP’s successful campaign in the Delhi Assembly elections earlier this year.

Deb linked the culture of dishonesty and betrayal in Indian society to the arrival of Islamic rulers, saying that India had no tradition of lying and cheating before their arrival. “It started only after the arrival of Muslim rulers from the Middle East to India, and they brought with them falsehood, treachery and cheating. All these things never prevailed in India before,” he said.

Talking about his recent visit to Australia, he compared the social behaviours of Australians and Indians. He said that while Australians tend to be well-mannered, disciplined, and truthful, they often lead a mechanical lifestyle and may lack common sense compared to Indians.
