Jogi was returning from his garments shop in the New Market area when two masked men, who were wielding knives, attacked him. The incident took place around 9 pm. A senior police officer said, "A case has been registered under IPC section 307 (attempt to murder) at the Arera Hills police station, but so far there are no clues about the culprits. Jogi has not spoken about any rivalry or previous threats. We are scanning CCTV footage from the spot." During the incident, the assailants allegedly attempted to attack him twice. Initially, he was assaulted from the rear, and while defending himself, he sustained serious injuries to his hand, resulting in deep wounds. He required 40 stitches during treatment. "I had closed down my shop and was returning when two masked men attacked me with knives. They have not been arrested. I request everyone's help in finding these people and helping me get justice," he said. A trader by profession, he was noticed on social media after his 'naam kya hai' meme was widely circulated. He even met former chief minister Shivraj Singh Chouhan during the campaign trail when the assembly elections were on, and recreated the meme.
