A serving Army jawan who allegedly fled after sexually harassing a tribal woman in Samba district last week has been arrested, police said.
While the police haven’t issued a statement, sources said the arrested jawan was a Kerala native with a Rashtriya Rifles battalion in Rajouri.
The incident reportedly took place on September 23 in Samba’s Bari Brahmana when the woman, a 2nd Year B.Sc. student, was on her way back home.
The accused allegedly dragged her to an isolated place and sexually harassed her but the woman resisted and raised alarm, forcing the accused to run away. However, before fleeing, the accused allegedly threatened her.
The woman allegedly narrated the episode to her parents, who immediately approached the police. An FIR was soon registered.
The suspect was allegedly tracked down with the help of technical leads, including CCTV footage in which the woman identified him while he was getting his two wheeler’s tank refilled at a petrol pump in the area.
