A day after Union Home Minister Amit Shah accused the Congress government in Rajasthan of practising vote bank politics by citing Udaipur-based tailor Kanhaiya Lal’s murder, former chief minister Vasundhara Raje visited the residence of an eyewitness in the case.

Raje on Saturday visited the residence of Rajkumar Sharma, who is a witness to Lal’s murder. Sharma is presently bedridden after suffering a brain haemorrhage.

The two accused – Mohammad Riyaz Attari and Mohammad Ghouse – were arrested the same day. Later, the NIA, which had taken over the case from the Rajasthan police, had said the killing was planned in Pakistan, also filed a chargesheet against 11 persons, including two Pakistani nationals.

“I wanted to come here and see the situation myself, what relief the government has provided and his condition now,” Raje told reporters in Udaipur on Saturday.

Raje added that she will help the family in case of any need including the marriage of Sharma’s children.

On Friday, while addressing a public meeting in Udaipur, Shah had launched a scathing attack on Chief Minister Ashok Gehlot, saying that had his government set up special courts, by now Lal’s killers would have been hanged.
