Union Home Minister Amit Shah will arrive in Chhattisgarh on August 23 on a three-day visit and review the inter-state coordination among the Maoist-affected states at a high-level meeting in state capital Raipur Saturday.
Later, in another meeting the same day, the Union Home Minister will also review security and development initiatives in Maoists-hit areas of Chhattisgarh.
The chief secretaries and Directors General of Police of Chhattisgarh, Jharkhand, Odisha, Madhya Pradesh and Maharashtra, besides top security officials of the central government are expected to attend the inter-state coordination meeting, a senior MHA official said.
During his visit to the state, Shah will also visit the Mahaprabhu Vallabhacharya Ashram in Raipur, review the functioning of the Narcotics Control Bureau (NCB) in Raipur and attend a meeting related to the Ministry of Cooperation.
Shah had said earlier that after the Vishnu Deo Sai-led BJP state government assumed charge last year, about 125 Maoists have been killed, over 352 arrested and about 175 had surrendered in just five months.
According to the Union home ministry’s data, the number of incidents of Left-Wing Extremism has reduced from 14,862 in 2004-14 to 7,128 in 2014-23. The number of deaths of security forces personnel due to LWE has declined by 72%, from 1,750 in 2004-14 to 485 in 2014-23, while number of civilian deaths has declined by 68%, from 4,285 to 1,383, in the same period.
The number of districts with violence was 96 in 2010, which declined by 53% to 45 in 2022.
