Samajwadi Party chief and former Uttar Pradesh CM Akhilesh Yadav Saturday said his party’s alliance with the Congress is “off to a good start” with 11 “strong” Lok Sabha seats in the state.
Akhilesh’s statement comes at a time when speculations are rife that Bihar CM and Janata Dal (United) president Nitish Kumar may return to the Bharatiya Janata Party-led NDA, toppling the Mahagathbandhan government.

“Our cordial alliance with the Congress is off to a good start with 11 strong seats. This trend will move forward with the winning equation. ‘INDIA’ team and ‘PDA’ strategy will change history,” Yadav said on social media platform X.
80 members of the Lower House of the Parliament come from UP. General elections are expected to take place in April-May this year.
Nitish Kumar had entered into an alliance with Rashtriya Janata Dal, founded by his former arch-rival Lalu Prasad, in August 2022 after he severed ties with the BJP. The longest-serving CM of Bihar, thereafter, embarked upon a drive to bring together all parties across the country to take on the BJP that culminated in the formation of the opposition bloc INDIA. The first meeting of the alliance had taken place in Patna.
