With the Assembly election slated to be held later this year, Chhattisgarh Chief Minister Bhupesh Baghel Tuesday announced plans to hold special interactive sessions with the youngsters of the state to learn about their aspirations and the issues faced by them.

The Chief Minister had undertaken a similar initiative named ‘Bhet Mulakat’ last year under which he visited all the 90 Assembly constituencies of Chhattisgarh to interact with the public. During the visits, Baghel promised the people money for making community buildings, facilities in schools, public grounds and health facilities, among other things.

The new initiative, however, is youth-specific and will be done division-wise. Chhattisgarh has five revenue divisions — Raipur, Durg, Bilaspur, Surguja and Bastar.

A government official said, “The government has, from time to time, helped Rajiv Yuva Mitan clubs in Chhattisgarh with some funds to do social work. These clubs have encouraged youngsters to do creative work in their respective fields. During the division-level youth interaction drive, these youngsters will get to share their views and experiences with the Chief Minister and the others. They will also get an opportunity to ask questions to the Chief Minister. Youths from every section of society will be represented in this programme.”

The ruling Congress government has often faced flak from the Opposition parties over unemployment in the state and for delaying their 2018 manifesto promise of providing an allowance to the unemployed youths, which was finally done earlier this year.

Talking about the initiatives, the official said, “Besides providing fee waiver for competitive examinations, we conducted ‘Rozgar Mission’ and organised job fairs in the state to provide employment opportunities. Recruitment has been opened for about 20,000 more government posts. Unemployment allowance is being provided to more than one lakh 17 thousand youth every month. So far, an amount of Rs 80 crore has been transferred to the account of the young beneficiaries as an unemployment allowance. Moreover, the sports infrastructure of the state has also been strengthened,” the official said.

Notably, the recruitment process was stalled due to a court order on the amended reservation Bill. After a recent court order this year, the recruitment process was renewed.
