Sources in the office of the Chief Electoral Officer (CEO), West Bengal, told The Indian Express that the Special Intensive Revision (SIR) of electoral rolls in West Bengal may start any day after November 1 and will continue till February, next year, in order to complete the exercise before the Assembly elections in the state. However, the source also notified that the West Bengal CEO is reportedly facing difficulties in employing Booth Level Officers (BLO) to carry out SIR owing to safety concerns. Religious slogans were allegedly found written on the walls of four temples in Bulakgadhi and Bhagwanpur villages of Uttar Pradesh’s Aligarh on Saturday, prompting protests by locals and members of the Karni Sena who demanded immediate action. Gyanendra Singh Chauhan, the national vice-president of Karni Sena, registered a complaint against seven individuals, alleging their involvement. A severe cyclone is expected to make landfall along the coast of Andhra Pradesh, crossing between Machilipatnam and Kalingapatnam near Kakinada, on October 28. Cyclone Montha, named by Thailand, will be the second cyclone to hit Indian shores this month after Cyclone Shakthi that developed off Gujarat coastline. While rainfall is expected to continue through the next five-six days, Rayalaseema will be lashed by extreme heavy showers, the India Meteorological Department said. Read more
All Overseas Citizens of India (OCI) can now complete and submit the e-Arrival card online within 72 hours before arriving in India. The submissions can be done at via boi.gov.in, indianvisaonline.gov.in, or via the official ‘Indian Visa Su-Swagatam’ mobile app. After submitting the application, foreigners must bring the originals of uploaded documents for verification. It is not required to carry the hard copies. Earlier, e-Arrival forms were distributed on flights to be filled out physically. The old facility will also continue up to a maximum of 6 months, or till further notice. Read more
