Prithviraj Sukumaran is currently busy with the promotions of his upcoming film Salaar, which star Prabhas in the lead role. In a recent interview, Prithviraj shared insights into his collaboration with Prabhas, addressed the portrayal of violence in the film directed by Prashanth Neel, and expressed his perspective on the highly anticipated box office clash with Shah Rukh Khan’s Dunki.

Speaking about working with Prabhas, Prithviraj told Bollywood Hungama, “Prabhas is one of the biggest stars of the country and probably the only person who does not know that is him. He is the nicest guy. Either he really does not know or he is putting up a brilliant performance. He does not know how big he is. I have spent 100 days with him and he checked on me everyday. He would ask, ‘Shall I send some food? Are you okay?’ and he would ask this every actor on set.”

Offering his perspective on the success of recent action films like Jawan, Pathaan, and Animal, Prithviraj said, “The mistake that we would make is to think that the action worked. It’s the drama that worked. Nobody will remember how good the action was, they will remember the motivation behind the action. The drama has to work. So, 2023 has seen a lot of action films become blockbusters but as actors and filmmakers we need to be aware that it’s not the action but it is good drama that is working.”

Talking about violence in Salaar, he said, “The idea behind the violence in Salaar is to create a world… Khansaar is a fictional world where the law of the land doesn’t apply. It has got 1000 year old history in blood and violence and the people still stick true to how they have become who they are. Then you unleash a character in the film that makes the world look timid. So, violence is very much a character in the film. I don’t think violence for violence sake will ever work in a film. People will look away. The motivation behind the violence will make people look at it.”

Addressing the simultaneous release and box office clash with Shah Rukh Khan’s Dunki and Mohanlal’s Neru, he said, “Before an actor and a filmmaker, I am a film lover. I love it that for this holiday season I have three films made by three iconic filmmakers, starring three of the biggest stars, to watch. I am huge fan of Shah Rukh Khan, Rajkumar Hirani, Jeethu Joseph and Mohanlal sir. I love Prashanth Neel and I think Salaar is an amazing film. I am going to see all the three films. I hope you are too.”

While Dunki and Neru will release on December 21, Salaar will hit the theatres a day later on December 22.
