Teachers’ Day 2024 Updates: President of India confers National Teachers’ Award to 82 teachers

The President while awarding the teachers on September 5 told teachers that the generation of their students will create a developed India. She advised teachers and students to have a global mindset and world-class skills. She stated that great teachers build a great nation. Only teachers with a developed mindset can create citizens who will build a developed nation. She expressed confidence that by inspiring students, our teachers will make India the knowledge hub of the world.

Addressing the gathering, the President said that teachers have to prepare such citizens who are not only educated but also sensitive, honest and enterprising. She stated that moving ahead in life is success, but the meaning of life lies in working for the welfare of others. We should have compassion. Our conduct should be ethical. A successful life lies in the meaningful life. Teaching these values to the students is the duty of teachers.

Each National Teachers’ Award carries a certificate of merit, a cash award of Rs. 50,000 and a silver medal. The awardees would also get an opportunity to interact with the Hon’ble Prime Minister.

The National Award to Teachers will be presented to 50 awardees from 28 states, 3 union territories, and 6 organisations. Among them, 34 are male, 16 are female, 2 are differently abled, and 1 works with children with special needs (CWSN). In addition to the 50 teachers, 16 teachers from the Department of Higher Education and 16 teachers from the Ministry of Skill Development and Entrepreneurship will also be awarded on the occasion.

The Amrit Udyan will be exclusively open for all teachers today on Teachers’ Day. According to PIB, the teachers can come from Gate No. 35 of the Rashtrapati Bhavan, near the North Avenue Road. A free shuttle bus service from Central Secretariat Metro Station to Gate No.35 will also be available for their convenience.

The President of India, Smt. Droupadi Murmu, has greeted teachers across the country on the eve of Teachers’ Day on Wednesday.

In a message, the President has said, “On the occasion of Teachers’ Day, I extend my warm wishes to all the teachers in our country. This day marks the birth anniversary of the great educationist, philosopher and former President of India Dr. Sarvepalli Radhakrishnan, who is a great source of inspiration for the entire nation. I pay my humble tributes to him on this occasion."

"Children are the future of the country. As students they learn life-skills and values. Teachers, as mentors, can mould students into future leaders who will shape the destiny of our country," she added.

"Teachers are entrusted with the crucial task of nurturing the minds of the future generation, guiding them towards overall excellence. Teachers have a duty to instill in students, moral values, critical thinking skills, and a sense of responsibility towards the society. Through modern methods of imparting education and optimal use of technology, as envisaged in National Education Policy 2020, teachers can empower the students to have a fruitful life and build a developed nation. I once again convey my good wishes to the entire teaching community and wish them success in the endeavour of building an enlightened community of students who will take India to greater heights,” the President said.
