GATE 2025 Admit Card Updates: Institutes accepting GATE scores for admission

GATE 2024 was conducted on February 3, 4, 10 and 11, 2024. It was held for three hours in the form of a computer-based test.

Hailing from Uttar Pradesh, 21-year-old Piyush Kumar improved his Graduate Aptitude Test in Engineering (GATE) rank from 530 in 2023 to AIR 1 this year. His potion to success, he claims, was ensuring that all his concepts are clear.

Kumar is a final year student of BTech CSE from Gurukul Kangri Vishwavidyalaya, Haridwar, Uttarakhand. He had been preparing for GATE for the past 15-16 months. When he appeared for GATE 2023, he hadn’t put in as much effort in preparation, so he decided to change his approach towards the exam this year.

“I sat and looked back at what were the mistakes that I was making last year. I identified my weaknesses and worked harder in those areas. When I practised mock tests, I ensured that I did not miss out on those chapters which seemed difficult to me last year,” he told indianexpress.com.

The first GATE was held on February 26, 1983 to select candidates for all post graduate engineering courses at five IITs (Delhi, Bombay, Kharagpur, Kanpur and Madras) and Indian Institute of Science, Bangalore. These courses which led to Master's degree in Engineering and Technology, were of three semesters duration (18 months).

IIT Roorkee has on January 7 activated the Graduate Aptitude Test in Engineering (GATE 2025) admit card link. The GATE exam 2025 is held for MTech admission in Indian Institutes of Technology (IITs) and other engineering colleges. GATE admit card download link 2025 has been hosted on the official website, gate2025.iitr.ac.in.

GATE is conducted annually to assess the comprehensive understanding of various undergraduate subjects in engineering, technology, architecture, science, commerce and arts. It conducted on a rotational basis by seven IITs and IISc Bangalore.

No, admit cards will not be sent by post or as an e-mail attachment. The hall tickets will be released today, and candidates who applied for the exam can download the hall ticket at the official website — gate2025.iitr.ac.in

No, on-the-spot request for scribe at the examination hall will not be entertained by the authorities at all.

Candidates will not be allowed to enter after 30 minutes from the starting time of examination under any circumstances. The candidates who enter late will not get any extra time to complete the exam. 

Candidates will not be allowed to leave the examination hall during the exam, they will be allowed to leave the hall only after the ‘scheduled end of examination’.

GATE 2025 will be held for a total of 30 test papers.

The GATE exam will be acomputer based test for 3 hours duration for all candidaes except PwD candidates, they will get 20 minutes extra per hour. Therefore, they will get one hour extra time for three hours exam

GATE score can be used for seeking financial assistance towards the Master’s programs and direct Doctoral programmes in Engineering/ Technology/ Architecture/ Science/ Commerce/ Arts; and Doctoral programmes in relevant branches of Arts and Science, in the institutions supported by the MoE and other Government agencies.

Only one scribble pad at any point of time will be provided to the candidate that can be used to do the rough work. To obtain a second scribble pad, the candidate should return the first scribble pad. Candidates have to return any scribble pad in their possession at the end of the examination. The virtual scientific calculator will be available on the computer screen.

Candidates have to also bring original and valid photo identity document (no photocopy/ scanned copy/ not an expired document), which was specified during filling up of the online application. For Indian candidates, only following identification cards will be accepted:

--Apart from the admit card, candidates have to bring original and valid photo identity document which was specified during the filling up of online application form (photocopy, scanned copy or an expired document would not work).

--For Indian candidates, only Aadhaar-UID (preferable), Passport, PAN card, Voter ID and Driving License will be accepted.

--For foreign nationals, documents like valid Passport, any other valid photo ID issued by their government, Driving License is acceptable

(i) Master’s programs and direct Doctoral programs in Engineering/ Technology/ Science/ Architecture/ Humanities; and

(ii) Doctoral programs in relevant branches of Engineering/ Technology/ Science/ Architecture/ Humanities, in the institutions supported by the MoE and other Government agencies.

PwD candidates with benchmark disability greater than 40% are eligible for compensatory time of one hour. PwD candidates with less than 40% disability and having difficulty in writing are eligible for compensatory time subject to the production of a certificate.

During the GATE 2025 exam, only one scribble pad at any point of time will be provided to the candidate for rough work. Candidates must ensure that certain things in the admit card are printed correctly. These are:

--Name of the candidate: The names of the candidate and their parent's name should be spelt correctly

--Paper combinations: The candidates must check if the paper combinations they applied for are the same

--Photograph of the candidate: The photograph of the candidate should be the same and visible. A candidate will not be allowed to appear if the photograph on the admit card is different.

--Signature of the candidate: The signature of the candidate must be the same.

--GATE 2025 exam centre: Students should check the exam centre and other details on the GATE admit card.

The GATE 2025 admit card link will be made available at gate2025.iitr.ac.in. The GATE admit card 2025 download time has not been announced yet, but will be released on January 7.

Each GATE 2025 paper is for 100 marks– General Aptitude (GA) which is common for all papers (15 marks) and the rest of the paper will cover the respective syllabus (85 marks). The computer-based test is for 3 hours duration.

There are three types of questions:

– Multiple-choice questions

– Multiple select questions

– Numerical answer type questions

There will be a total of 65 questions, 10 for General Aptitude and 55 for the subject you are appearing for. There will be negative marking for MCQ, for 1 mark MCQ ? mark will be deducted while for 2 marks MCQ, ? mark will be deducted. There will be no negative markings for MSQ and NAT.
