GATE Admit Card 2024 Updates: IISc Bangalore releases hall tickets

IISc Bangalore has on January 4 activated the Graduate Aptitude Test in Engineering (GATE 2024) admit card link. The GATE exam 2024 is held for MTech admission in Indian Institutes of Technology (IITs) and other engineering colleges. GATE admit card download link 2024 has been hosted on the official website, gate2024.iisc.ac.in.

The GATE 2024 is scheduled to be conducted on February 3, 4, 10 and 11.

General Aptitude: 15 marks
Subject Questions: 85 marks
Total: 100 marks

The first GATE was held on February 26, 1983 to select candidates for all post graduate engineering courses at five IITs (Delhi, Bombay, Kharagpur, Kanpur and Madras) and Indian Institute of Science, Bangalore. These courses which led to Master's degree in Engineering and Technology, were of three semesters duration (18 months).

Here are a few PSUs which will be hiring on the basis of GATE 2024 score:

-- The Nuclear Power Corporation of India Limited (NPCIL) will be using GATE-2024 score for recruitment of Executive Trainees-2024 Batch in six engineering disciplines: Chemical, Civil, Electrical, Electronics, Instrumentation, and Mechanical.

-- National Mineral Development Corporation (NMDC) Limited, a Navaratna Public Sector Enterprise under the Ministry of Steel, Government of India will be recruiting Executive Trainee (Tech.) based on GATE 2024 examination.

Each GATE 2024 paper is for 100 marks– General Aptitude (GA) which is common for all papers (15 marks) and the rest of the paper will cover the respective syllabus (85 marks). The computer based test is for 3 hours duration.

There are three types of questions:
– Multiple choice questions
– Multiple select questions
– Numerical answer type questions

There will be a total of 65 questions, 10 for General Aptitude and 55 for the subject you are appearing for. There will be negative marking for MCQ, for 1 mark MCQ ? mark will be deducted while for 2 marks MCQ, ? mark will be deducted. There will be no negative marking for MSQ and NAT.

GATE 2024 scorecard will be valid for three years from the date of release of scorecards.

GATE 2024 is being hosted by IISc this year. GATE is conducted annually on a rotational basis by seven IITs (Bombay, Delhi, Kanpur, Guwahati, Roorkee, Madras and Kharagpur) and IISc Bangalore on behalf of the National Coordination Board.

The GATE exam will be acomputer based test for 3 hours duration for all candidaes except PwD candidates, they will get 20 minutes extra per hour. Therefore, they will get one hour extra time for three hours exam

GATE score can be used for seeking financial assistance towards the Master’s programs and direct Doctoral programmes in Engineering/ Technology/ Architecture/ Science/ Commerce/ Arts; and Doctoral programmes in relevant branches of Arts and Science, in the institutions supported by the MoE and other Government agencies.

Things candidates cannot carry inside the exam centre:

- Mobile phones

- Physical calculators

- Wallets

- Watches of any type,

- Any electronic/communicating devices

- Books

- Papers

- Loose sheets

- Pen/ pencil box/ pouch and any other similar items 

Only one scribble pad at any point of time will be provided to the candidate that can be used to do the rough work. To obtain a second scribble pad, the candidate should return the first scribble pad. Candidates have to return any scribble pad in their possession at the end of the examination. The virtual scientific calculator will be available on the computer screen.

No, admit cards will not be sent by post or as an e-mail attachment. The hall tickets will be released tomorrow, and candidates who applied for the exam can download the hall ticket at the official website — gate.iitk.ac.in.

Candidates will not be allowed to enter after 30 minutes from the starting time of examination under any circumstances. The candidates who enter late will not get any extra time to complete the exam.

Candidates have to also bring original and valid photo identity document (no photocopy/ scanned copy/ not an expired document), which was specified during filling up of the online application. For Indian candidates, only following identification cards will be accepted:

• Aadhaar-UID (preferable)
• Passport
• PAN card
• Voter ID
• Driving license

No, hard copy (preferably printed in colour) of the admit card is required to gain entry to the examination centre.

Last year too there was a delay in the release of GATE admit cards. In 2023, earlier admit cards were supposed to be issued on January 3. However, due to operational reasons, the release of hall tickets was delayed to January 9.

Apart from the admit card, candidates have to bring original and valid photo identity document which was specified during the filling up of online application form (photocopy, scanned copy or an expired document would not work). 

For Indian candidates, only Aadhaar-UID (preferable), Passport, PAN card, Voter ID and Driving License will be accepted.

For foreign nationals, documents like valid Passport, any other valid photo ID issued by their government, Driving License is acceptable

In 2023, GATE admit card was released on January 9 by IIT Kanpur, and it was released around January 15 in 2022 by IIT Kharagpur.

As the exams are inching closer candidates can prepare by practicing mock tests or downloading old question papers from the official GATE website -- gate.iitk.ac.in. The old question papers are available since 2007.

GATE 2024 scores will be used for:

(i) Master’s programs and direct Doctoral programs in Engineering/ Technology/ Science/ Architecture/ Humanities; and

PwD candidates with benchmark disability greater than 40% are eligible for compensatory time of one hour. PwD candidates with less than 40% disability and having difficulty in writing are eligible for compensatory time subject to the production of a certificate.

• Questions carry 1 mark or 2 marks
• For a wrong answer chosen in an MCQ, there will be negative marking
• For a 1-mark MCQ, 1/3 mark will be deducted for a wrong answer.
• For a 2-mark MCQ, 2/3 mark will be deducted for a wrong answer.
• There is no negative marking for wrong answer(s) to MSQ or NAT questions.
• There is no partial marking in MSQ.

GATE 2024 sample paper for Data Science and Artificial Intelligence paper is available at the gate2024.iisc.ac.in. 

The candidate will have to appear at GATE exam centre on the date and time specified in the GATE admit card. Requests for change in the centre or location and date and time specified in the GATE admit card will not be entertained.

Candidates will be allotted exam centres on the basis of the ones filled during the application process. The exam will be held in eight zones -- IIT Bombay, IIT Delhi, IIT Guwahati, IIT Kanpur, IIT Kharagpur, IIT Madras, IISc Bangalore and IIT Roorkee. The exam centres will fall under each zone.

The Indian Institute of Science (IISc) Bangalore this year has introduced a new paper in GATE. The new paper is on Data Science and Artificial Intelligence (DA). With the introduction of the new GATE 2024 paper, the number of test papers have increased to 30.

The GATE 2024 exam will be conducted on February 3, 4, 10 and 11. The candidates’ response sheets will be available on the portal from February 16. While the GATE 2024 answer keys will be available from February 21, challenges on the answer key can be raised between February 22 and 25, 2024. The GATE 2024 results will be announced on March 16 and score cards will be made available on March 23.

During the GATE 2024 exam, only one scribble pad at any point of time will be provided to the candidate for rough work. To obtain a second scribble pad, the candidate will have to return the first scribble pad. The candidates have to return any scribble pad in their possession at the end of the examination. The virtual scientific calculator will be available on the computer screen.

In case candidates find some discrepancy in the GATE hall ticket 2024, they should immediately contact IISc Bangalore and get it sorted before the start of the exam.

After the IISc Bangalore releases the GATE admit card 2024 and candidates download it, they must ensure that certain things in the admit card are printed correctly. These are:

The Indian Institute of Science (IISc) has also announced new two-paper combinations this time. This is in addition to the previously announced combinations during the regular and extended registration periods. 

As per reports, nearly 8 lakh applicants registered for the GATE 2024 exams. Nearly 25 per cent more candidates have applied as compared to the last year. 

The types of questions in GATE 2024 will include Multiple Choice Questions (MCQ), Multiple Select Questions (MSQ), and Numerical Answer Type (NAT) questions. In MCQs, only one out of four options is correct. In MSQs, one or more than one out of four options is/are correct; and for NAT questions, the answer must be keyed in using a virtual keypad. The candidates must use only the on-screen virtual calculator provided for their calculations.

Question: Will GATE 2024 admit cards be sent by post?

Answer: The GATE 2024 admit cards will not be sent by post. Candidates will only have to download the GATE admit card from the official website -- gate2024.iisc.ac.in.
