Plan for more Navyug schools in NDMC areas

If all goes well, areas under the New Delhi Municipal Council may have more Navyug schools next year.

If all goes well, areas under the New Delhi Municipal Council (NDMC) may have more Navyug schools next year. The NDMC budget session is scheduled for February-end and Tajdar Babar,Vice-Chairperson of the civic body, has demanded that more NDMC schools be converted into Navyug schools.

The NDMC members have been asked to submit their demands before the budget, and Babar has focussed on education in her application.

At present, the NDMC has 11 Navyug schools, deemed to be the best government-funded schools in the Capital. They are managed by the Navyug School Education Society, but are funded by the NDMC. These schools are meant for bright students from the economically weaker sections and are known for producing good students due to its good selection of teachers.

Recently, five Navyug Schools were accredited by the Quality Council of India for also providing extra-curricular activities to its students. Navyug School-Sarojini Nagar, deemed to be the best such school in Delhi, was started in 1973.

Babar has submitted her demands for the budget to the NDMC Chairperson. She says she has been trying to get them implemented for a long time. “During the last few budgets,it was declared that at least one NDMC school will be converted into a Navyug school every year, but till date no action has been taken,” she says.

The NDMC also has 47 primary,middle,secondary,senior-secondary schools and 18 nursery schools. Babar has also requested the civic body to introduce special extra-curricular activities in schools during the evening,as NDMC schools do not have evening shifts. The space can be used for activities such as painting, dancing, etc.
