With Rahul Gandhi abroad, Congress general secretary Priyanka Gandhi Vadra will start the party’s campaign in Madhya Pradesh on June 12. But the choice of the location is interesting: She will address a rally in Jabalpur, the heart of Mahakoshal region. The Shivraj Singh Chouhan government does not have many ministers from the region, which is said to a grouse of its residents. In fact, Chouhan had to make many MLAs loyal to Jyotiraditya Scindia ministers, and none of them belongs to the region. The staff and visitors to the Ministry of Housing and Urban Affairs’ office at Nirman Bhawan, which is maintained by CPWD, are greeted at the entrance with a board carrying an image of new Parliament, with the words: “Proud moment for CPWD fraternity to complete landmark of the nation in record time once again; congratulations to all.”
As the documentary on Vadnagar — ‘Ananth Anaadih Vadnagar’ — premiered on Discovery channel on Wednesday, Union Culture & Tourism Minister G Kishan Reddy was present in the town, where Prime Minister Narendra Modi grew up. The documentary focuses on the 2,500-year history of the town, which was added to the UNESCO World Heritage Tentative list last year. During his visit, Reddy also visited Vadnagar railway station and had tea with Railways officials. As a child, Modi helped his father sell tea to commuters at the station. Opened around the 1880s, the station has been modernised.
