The Kerala government Monday announced a high-level probe into the allegations raised by ruling LDF MLA P V Anvar against some top IPS officers, including law and order ADGP M R Ajith Kumar, a close confidant of Chief Minister Pinarayi Vijayan.

On Sunday, ruling LDF legislator P V Anvar had accused Vijayan’s political secretary P Sasi and ADGP Kumar of breaching the trust of the CM and failing to deliver their responsibilities honestly.

At a press conference in Malappuram, Anvar, a businessman-turned politician and two-term MLA representing Nilambur seat, called Ajith Kumar a “notorious criminal” and said the IPS officer seems to have taken Dawood Ibrahim as his role model. The Left MLA also alleged that the ADGP had got people killed in connection with gold smuggling.

Anvar alleged that CM’s political secretary P Sasi is a “failure” and said he was ready to approach the Supreme Court if criminals in the police were not bridled. “Sasi and Ajith Kumar are officials whom the CM has entrusted significant responsibilities with trust. Here, the issue is whether those responsibilities entrusted upon them are delivered honestly,” he said.

While the Congress demanded a CBI probe into the LDF-backed Independent MLA’s allegations, the BJP sought a reply from the CM.

Anvar said, “He (Ajith Kumar) is a notorious criminal. He has an assistant at the cyber cell to leak the phone calls of ministers and legislators.” He also made allegations against S Sujith Das IPS, the police chief of Pathanamthitta district. When Sujith Das was the SP in Malappuram, police had busted several gold smuggling rackets outside the Kozhikode airport.

“Sujith has links in Customs department. At the airport, Customs (officers) will not take action even if gold concealed is detected. They will give the information to police waiting outside. Police will chase them and seize the gold. Of the seized gold, a chunk will be taken away by police and rest will be handed over to the Customs (officers). This was their modus operandi and Sujith Das was controlled by Ajith Kumar,’’ he alleged.

“A year ago a businessman named Mami went missing from Kozhikode. I think he was murdered. Everything is related to gold smuggling through Kozhikode airport,’’ he said.

Regarding Sasi, also a CPI(M) leader, Anvar said: “The confidants are landing the CM in trouble. The CM is facing the blame for acts of Ajith Kumar and Sujith Das. Confidants are digging traps for him (CM).”

Neither the CMO nor ADGP has so far reacted to the Anvar’s allegations. At Kochi airport, the media sought the reaction of the CM, but he did not respond. Opposition Leader V D Satheesan said the officials facing the allegation should be sacked immediately. “The revelation should be probed by the CBI,’’ he said.

BJP state chief K Surendran said the CM should react to the allegations. “The revelations are shocking. It shows the CMO is heading all criminal activities in the state,” he said.
