The ED on Thursday raided several locations as part of a money laundering investigation against SDPI, the political outfit of the banned PFI. The searches came a day after the agency arrested SDPI national president M K Faizy.
In Kerala, the ED conducted searches at the SDPI’s state committee office in Thiruvananthapuram and the district committee office in Malappuram. The agency seized several documents and digital devices.
The SDPI said the ED raids were part of “BJP’s politics of vendetta”.
SDPI’s Kerala president C P A Latheef said, “Across the country, we have been campaigning against the BJP government’s Wakf Amendment Bill. We had already conducted protests in 22 states and the events had created a big impact. The arrest of the national president and the raids are the fallout of that.’’
Speaking to reporters, Union Minister Kiren Rijiju said all the actions by the enforcement agencies are based on “certain facts and figures which I can’t comment on”.
