A 25-year-old man died after being stabbed 20 times with a knife by his girlfriend’s former boyfriend in Surat early morning. The accused, Azhar Shaikh (26), a resident of Kosad Awas, has been arrested.

The police identified the deceased as Parth alias Badal Ramesh Ahirkar, a resident of Umragam in the city, who ran a food cart.

“Around 10 am on Tuesday night, Parth had left home with his friends Ashok Vasava and Rutvik Nayka. While returning home, Parth received a call from his former girlfriend’s brother, asking him to come for his birthday party,” a police officer said.

The officer added that Parth with his two friends reached residential building Patel Chambers, where the party was in progress.

At the parking lot of Patel chambers, Parth spotted his girlfriend with Azhar. “Before Parth could do anything, Azhar took out a knife from his pocket and repeatedly stabbed him. His two friends escaped and hid… they also filmed the entire incident,” the officer said.

Later, they took Parth to Mahavir hospital, where doctors declared him brought dead on arrival. Parth’s father Ramesh Ahirkar filed a complaint of murder against Azhar with Athwalines police Wednesday morning.

Athwalines police Inspector D G Rabari said, “There were 20 severe deep injuries on the body of the deceased. The accused was having an affair with the woman but their relationship had ended. She was in a relationship with Parth and Azhar was against it. This drove him to kill Parth.”
