Around 22 people, including eight children and 11 women, were injured on Sunday after they were stung by honeybees. They were on their way to place an urn for a religious ritual in a temple in the Umarpada taluka in Surat district. Believed to be residents of Madanpada village, they crossed a rivulet on Sunday evening and were to reach Bhathiji Temple to place an urn for a Navratri ritual. The urn apparently hit a beehive on the branch of a tree. The injured were rushed to Jankhvav Referral Hospital. Dr Dinesh Chaudhary, Medical officer of Jankhvav Referral Hospital, said, “Of the 22 injured, 8 are children, 11 are women and three are men. The youngest child was 4 years old, and the oldest person to get injured was 50 years old. The honeybees mostly attacked the faces, necks, and hands. Around four people were admitted while the remaining others were discharged from the hospital on Sunday night. The four admitted patients were discharged on Monday afternoon after they were fully recovered.”
