MP Vandana Chavan on Friday said that efforts will be made to earmark funds for development works in cantonments in the state budget.
Chavan announced this at a press conference after she visited Pune and Khadki Cantonment areas along with members of legislative assembly and PMC corporators. Chavans comments may be viewed in the backdrop of elections that are likely to take place next year in cantonment areas. The present board of Pune Cantonment Board (PCB) is dominated by Congress members, with only one elected NCP member.
Chavan said PCB has almost completed the city development plan which may be linked to Punes plan. The PCB has long been seeking funds under the Jawaharlal Nehru National Urban Renewal Mission (JNNURM) for Pune. Chavan said the same may get a boost if city development plan of PCB is linked to Pune.
PCB and KCB officials discussed various cantonment issues including road, sewage, water among others with the delegation.
Chavan said decision-makers in the state government would be urged to make provision for funds for cantonments in the budget.
