After water logging in the parking lot of Pune district and sessions court, the Pune Bar Association (PBA) has asked the public works department (PWD) to fit inter-locking blocks at various locations on the court premises. Heavy rain has resulted in waterlogging in parking lots, near the main building and near Pune lawyers consumer society.

“This has been happening for the past four-five years and lawyers and litigants continue to face inconvenience. We have been corresponding with the public works department, requesting them to fit interlocking blocks between the new building and small-causes court building,” said PBA president Milind Pawar.

The PWD engineer had said that they were short of funds following which the PBA will be meeting Pune guardian minister Ajit Pawar next week in this regard,Pawar said. He added that their effort will be to do away with thisproblem at least by next monsoon.

Advocate Manjiri Abnave said with about 10,000 persons visiting the court on daily basis, water logging results in uncleanliness in the court premises.

“Water logging is also a health hazard with various diseases cropping up during monsoons,” said Nirmala Jogdeo,a litigant.

Some advocates also complained of shortage of parking space because of water logging. “Although litigants’ vehicles are now banned inside the court premises,we fall short of parking space because of water accumulation,” they said. Many of them have to park outside the court or go for double parking. Inter-locking blocks in the parking lot will definitely help in accommodating more vehicles, said a lawyer.

“ I had to bring by 75-year-old mother to the court last month and today (Tuesday) in the new building. With water accumulated right outside,I need to be extra careful. The situation is worse during rush hour,” said Manoj Gavte.
