Maharashtra drew their two-day match with Gujarat but ended up with the majority of the points on the basis of a superior lead in the West Zone under-14 cricket tournament organised by the Mumbai Cricket Association. The match was played at the Bandra Kurla Complex cricket ground on Friday. Gujarat won the toss and put the opposition in to bat. Maharashtra scored a total of 230 runs before being bundled out in 60 overs. Opener Murtuza Rankwala was the top scorer with a fine knock of 82 runs off 140 balls,which included 16 hits to the fence. Number nine batsman Mohsin Sayyed scored a handy 43 runs off 44 balls to give the team some solidity. For Gujarat,Divya Shah was the pick of the bowlers scalping 4 wickets for 70 runs in 18 overs. Jinesh Soni and Bhavil Rathod gave him good support by picking up a couple of wickets each. In reply,Gujarat managed to score only 172 runs before being bowled out in 98 overs,thus trailing Maharashtra by 58 runs. They were off to a poor start as both the openers Dhawal Patel and Bimal Rayka fell cheaply with only 15 runs on the board. Ashish Marsolia top scored for Gujarat with 34 runs off 107 balls. Kathan Patel gave him good support with 31 runs off 85 balls. For Maharashtra Mohsin Sayyed was the pick of the bowlers as he took five crucial wickets and gave away just 64 runs in his 33 overs. Jagdish Tope and Omkar Sankpal also picked up two wickets each. Maharashtra gained five points as opposed to Gujarats one point owing to their superior first innings lead.
