Porsche crash: Two Pune Police officers suspended for ‘dereliction of duty’; case transferred to crime branch
Police Inspector Rahul Jagdale and Assistant Police Inspector Vishwanath Todkari mishandled the investigation and failed to inform the wireless control room about the incident in time, a senior police officer of Pune Police said.
“There was some negligence by the officers concerned and appropriate action against that officer will be taken at the soonest,” Kumar had told reporters eaerlier today when asked about the status of the internal inquiry being conducted by Pune City Police.
Pune Police has suspended two of its officers attached to Yerwada Police Station for dereliction of duty in the initial response to the Porsche crash casethat killed two IT engineers on May 19.
“A police inspector and an assistant police inspector have been suspended pending inquiry for dereliction of duty,” a senior police officer of Pune Police said confirming the suspension.

The case has also been transferred to Pune Police’s Crime Branch. The probe was earlier with Yerwada Police Station.
When contacted, Police Commissioner Amitesh Kumar confirmed that the case of the crash has been transferred to the Crime Branch.
The investigation in a related case against the father of the juvenile and staff members at two Pune bars where the juvenile was allegedly served alcohol prior to the accident is already with the Crime Branch.
Speaking to mediapersons earlier today, Pune Police Commissioner Amitesh Kumar had hinted at the punitive action against officials involved in the early stage of the Porsche crash case. He had said that the internal inquiry conducted by an Assistant Commissioner of Police has prima facie found that there was ‘some negligence’ on part of the police officers involved in the first response to the case.

“There was some negligence by the officers concerned and appropriate action against that officer will be taken at the soonest,” Kumar had told reporters eaerlier today when asked about the status of the internal inquiry being conducted by Pune City Police.
Kumar said that the FIR was lodged against the minor boy around 8 am on Sunday. He was then taken to Sassoon General hospital for medical examination. “Here his blood samples were taken around 11 am. There is a lapse in time of collection of blood samples. But our case under section 304 (culpable homicide) is not dependent on blood report. We have a water tight case that he (minor) was in full senses while committing the offence,” said Kumar.
IT engineers Aneesh Awadhiya and Ashwini Koshta who hailed from Madhya Pradesh and worked in Pune were killed after a speeding Porsche driven by a 17-year-old boy in an inebriated state hit their motorcycle at Pune’s Kalyani Nagar junction around 2.30 am on May 19.
