The citys nightlife has over the years seen many changes from early deadlines to new music styles and the ubiquitous presence of bouncers. But a recent tend could quite go down as one of the most unusual. A bunch of city party hubs has taken to having medical help available to partygoers should they drink too much, hurt themselves or worse, get into a brawl.
While some have doctors present on the busiest nights like Saturdays, others have them available on call. Sachin Nagarale, partner,One Lounge, attributes this move to the responsibility that comes with the business. It involves late nights and drinking,so it is important that we have access to doctors, ambulances and even valets for those whove been drinking,in order to avoid untoward incidents, he said.
Kue Bar at The Westin Hotel,Koregaon Park, records a high footfall on Fridays and Saturdays. We are prepared to handle any health issue. We have doctors and access to medical emergency services, said Piyush Deshmukh of Kue Bar. General physician Dr Girish Baria is associated with the hotel. He is present at the nightclub almost always. Im there 99.9 per cent of the time, especially on Saturday nights when we get around 800 people. In party mode, they sometimes lose count of the number of glasses theyve had, said Dr Baria.
While there hasnt been any fight or emergency case,Dr Baria has dealt with cases where people have been completely drunk. They need little more hydration, proper water intake and rest. Their pulse also needs monitoring, he said. For medico-legal cases, the persons affected are rushed to Sancheti Hospital or Ruby Hall Clinic. Though the need has never arisen, such an arrangement was a protocol laid down when we started Kue Bar. I coordinate with the doctors at the hospitals in such cases, he added.
At One Lounge nearby,a doctor is called in on specific days if the management feels the need, said Navtej Sawhney, partner. Having a tie-up with hospitals or doctors may not be required because there is no high probability of medical cases. However,we have full access to medical help and our management swings into action if the need arises, added Nagarale.
Across the river,at Senapati Bapat Road, revellers head to Paasha or Miami at Marriott Hotel and Convention Centre. Here, too, there is a doctor on call. We also have our loss prevention team certified to provide first aid in case of emergency, says Vikrant Vohra, director of operations at the hotel.
Area 51 at Pancard Clubs,Baner, lays emphasis on first aid. The place has five first-aid counters which can be easily accessed in case a guest is hurt. We have trained staff to administer the first aid. Plus,we have general physician Dr Deshpande, who resides in Baner,on call, said Shahji, general manager,Pancard Clubs.
