Thousands out on the streets on Visarjan day

The immersion ceremony was witnessed by thousands of people on the river bank and from the top of the bridge.

The immersion ceremony of Lord Ganesh took place in the city on Sunday amidst much grandeur. The main procession involving Manache Ganpati started an hour-and-half before noon at Mandai. First in line, the Kasba Ganpati was greeted warmly by devotees. Flanked by dhol troupes, the procession moved slowly towards Alka Talkies chowk, from where it headed for immersion, which was being carried out in a tank for the first time instead of a river. The immersion ceremony was witnessed by thousands of people on the river bank and from the top of the bridge.

Kasba was followed by Tambdi Jogeshwari, Guruji Taalim, Tulshibaug and Kesri Wada. Each of them were welcomed by crowds assembled on buildings and roof-tops who showered petals on the procession. The rhythm of dhol saw devotees dancing and waving. The beautiful idol of Tulshibaug Ganeshotsav Mandal caught the eye of many. Many indulged in clicking selfies with the idol.

“The idol of Tulshibaug attracts many due to its looks; and we feel that this popularity can be used for something viable. So we’re spreading the message of organ donation through this year’s procession,” said Vivek Khatavkar, mandal president. Some foreigners were also seen enjoying.
