Tennis tourney: Dalvi,Nitture annex U-10 state rankings title

MIT School student Yashraj Dalvi and New Horizon Public School’s Akanksha Nitture won the boys and girl’s titles respectively in the Arvind Jog Foundation Under-10 State Ranking tennis tournament at the Deccan Gymkhana courts.

Class V student Yashraj,who was unseeded for the tournament,beat three seeded players to rightfully claim the title.

In the final,Yashraj who trains at the Solaris Club,beat seventh seed Sanmay Gandhi 4-0,4-1 to clinch the title. Earlier,heat beat sixth seed Rohan Ravi 6-1 in the semifinals and fourth seed Karim Khan 6-1 in the quarterfinals.

Interestingly,Sanmay Gandhi had come into the final beating top seeded Leston Vaaz 6-3,but in the best of four games,two set final,his resilience failed to stop Yashraj from romping to victory.

In the girl’s final,the top seeded Akanksha Nitture,Class VI student from Panvel,rallied to beat Mallika Marathe,the fifth seed 2-4,5-3,(7-0). In the semifinals,she had beaten the fourth seed Gargi Pawar 6-4 and Anisha Shewte 6-2 in the quarterfinals.
