Chairperson of the Maharashtra women’s commission Rupali Chakankar on Tuesday said the fourth and final report in the Tanisha Bhise case will be sent to the state government soon.

The report, prepared by a committee set up at the government-run Sassoon Hospital, follows three reports already submitted to the government — from the state health department, the Pune Charity Commissioner and the maternal and child death department of the Pune Municipal Corporation (PMC).

“The process of registering a case against Deenanath Mangeshkar Hospital will be carried out as per the recommendations and directions given in the reports,” said Chakankar who was addressing a press conference organised at the district collectorate in Pune on Tuesday.

Sassoon Hospital dean Dr. Eknath Pawar, Deputy Commissioner of Pune city’s crime department Nikhil Pingle and members of the Pune police’s Bharosa cell were also present.

Tanisha, who was in her thirties, had delivered the twins at Surya Hospital in Wakad on March 29 and died at Manipal Hospital, Baner, two days later. Her family and BJP MLC Amit Gorkhe alleged that she was earlier denied admission at Deenanath Mangeshkar Hospital as she could not pay an advance deposit of Rs 10 lakh. Tanisha’s husband Sushant is Gorkhe’s secretary.

Chakankar said they were fully committed to ensure justice in the case. “Let it be clear — there should never be another Tanisha Bhise case…This is not just about one life lost — it is a call to action for safe motherhood across our healthcare system,” she said.

A complaint in the Tanisha case was lodged on April 9 at the Alankar police station. Accordingly, the Pune police sent a formal request to Sassoon Hospital to initiate an inquiry.

Dr Pawar told the media, “A committee was constituted on April 10 to examine all aspects of the case. Meetings have been held and documents from the three hospitals involved have been collected and are currently under detailed review.”

The three hospitals Dr Pawar was referring to are Deenanath Mangeshkar Hospital, Surya Hospital and Manipal Hospital. When asked about Indira IVF Fertility Centre, where Tanisha had sought consultation from doctors, Dr Pawar said that aspect was also being looked at.

“The Sassoon Hospital committee’s report is in its final stages. Every effort is being made to submit it to the concerned authorities soon,” said Dr Pawar, adding that all details were being reviewed and confirmed.
