Opposition MP Supriya Sule and NCP(SP) leader Yugendra Pawar led an agitation demanding the immediate implementation of a minimum support price (MSP) for onions and milk in baramati on Tuesday.
Wearing black ribbons, protesters at the Jan Aakrosh Andolan raised slogans against the Modi government. The NCP (SP) leaders criticised the Modi government’s policies, which they alleged went against the interests of farmers.
They said onion prices had gone down after the central government imposed export duty on the produce. They alleged traders were finding it unviable to export their produce.
The Sharad Pawar faction also criticised the central and state governments for neglecting milk producers. “The central and state governments have failed to ensure fair pricing for milk which has affected the rural economy,” Sule said. Yugendra Pawar said policies of the state and central governments affected not only the rural economy but have made farmers’ lives miserable.
