Summons issued for Margao blast suspect

A special court in Goa has issued a summons for Sarang Akolkar,one of the absconding accused in the Margao blasts case and a member of Sanatan Sanstha,a Hindu outfit.

A special court in Goa has issued a summons for Sarang Akolkar,one of the absconding accused in the Margao blasts case and a member of Sanatan Sanstha,a Hindu outfit. Akolkar has already been declared an absconding in the case by the National Investigation Agency (NIA). The notice was handed over to Akolkar’s parents on Friday and was also affixed at the the door of his house in Shanivarpeth by an NIA team from Hyderabad.

On Diwali eve on October 16,2009,an explosive device placed in a scooter had gone off killing Malgionda Patil and Yogesh Naik,suspected members of the Sanstha.

A chargesheet submitted by the NIA in the Goa court had in May 2010 brought to fore a Pune link by naming Sanstha member Akolkar and 11 others. A graduate of electronics engineering from a private engineering college here,Akolkar has been missing since the blast.

“Sarang has not contacted us for the past three years. We have no clue where he is. He told us he was going to join a company in Bangalore. We do not have his contact number either. I have had two paralysis attacks and have also met with an accident after that. We are managing our expenses with the money our daughter sends us,” said Sarang’s father Dilip Akolkar. His mother Kanchan said her son’s birthday was on October 1. “He turned 30. But I have not seen him since he was 27.”

An official note issued by the the NIA said a reward of Rs 20,000 has been declared for any person who gives information about Akolkar. “We urge people to contact NIA on numbers 09493799335 and 040-27764488 if they have any information about Akolkar.” said the release.

The NIA team visited Vishrambag police station on Friday evening to issue the notice,a copy of which has also been put up at the Pune Municipal Corporation.
