St Mary’s clinch basketball title

Prithi Gaur top scored with 10 points while Gargi Kulkarni’s seven points and Sabee Bhade’s six helped St Mary’s School,Pune,defeat Bombay Scottish School,Mahim,37-34 to win the Maharashtra Anglo-Indian ICSE Inter-School Basketball Tournament title for girls

Prithi Gaur top scored with 10 points while Gargi Kulkarni’s seven points and Sabee Bhade’s six helped St Mary’s School,Pune,defeat Bombay Scottish School,Mahim,37-34 to win the Maharashtra Anglo-Indian ICSE Inter-School Basketball Tournament title for girls.

Playing at the Bishop’s Co-education School,Kalyaninagar,Courts,St Mary’s naturally had more support being the home team.

But Bombay Scottish made a match of the contest despite trailing 18-27 at halftime.

Rachel Netto almost single-handedly drove Bombay Scottish as she scored 20 points. Deeya Parikh and Anjali Narain gave intermittent support to the hardworking Netto,both scoring four points apiece. Netto’s hard work almost took the Mumbai school to victory,but she ran out of support from her teammates as her side finally fell short by three points.

Deeya Parikh,from Bombay Scottish,Mahim,won the best player award while Kimberley Fernandez of Christ Church School became the highest scorer. The team of Barnes School,Nashik,was adjudged the most disciplined team of the tournament.
