A sports medicine research institute MEDSPORT HSPRI owned by city-based OSR Sports Works Consulting,LLP was inaugurated at Magarpatta City on Tuesday. Olympian Tintu Luka was the first athlete to get herself tested at the institute in the presence of her mentor P T Usha.
Vivek Raja, managing partner,Sports Works Consulting,LLP,said,It is a long-standing dream of every athlete to reach the pinnacle of his potential and win medals at the international level. However, for want of proper scientific and methodical testing leading to accurate training protocols and performance prediction, these athletes were on the back foot so far.
Lt Gen (retd) S A Cruze who once spearheaded the Indian Armys sports medicine programme will guide the athletes at the institute.
The facility will help parents test their wards potential. If someone requires injury rehabilitation, they can avail the best of the resources at the institute, said a release issued by the company.
The institute claims to be the only one to offer lactate and heart rate-based training programmes and periodisation information to athletes.
The institute specialises in identifying the current performance status of athletes or teams, prescribing games specific training based on an individuals capability and monitoring training progress based on specified protocols. This knowhow and application of body function dependent protocols in performance improvement of an athlete is unfortunately not available in the country at present, said Raja.
