Pune city police on Tuesday night busted a sex racket and arrested 18 people,including 11 girls and seven agents,from the parking of Hotel Sana in Balewadi.
An offence under sections of Prevention of Immoral Trafficking Act (PITA) was registered at Chaturshringi police station. Primary investigation revealed that notorious sex racketeer Shakti Thapa was the kingpin. Police have also booked the hotel manager in the case.
Acting on a tip-off to Assistant Commissioner of Police (Chaturshringi division) Smeeta Patil,a police team from Hinjewadi police station laid a trap at Hotel Sana. Police planted a decoy customer to confirm whether the sex racket was operating from the parking lot of the hotel.
Police raided the spot and arrested 11 girls from two cars and also nabbed seven persons,who allegedly worked as agents.
The agents have been identified as Ganesh Tikaram Sharma (23),Jubair Allauddin Hussain (22),Vishal Shiva Gautam (19) ,Kumar Bahadur Giri (20),Ashok Ganesh Ravat (24),all natives of Assam,and Arjunkumar Lakshman Sahu (19) and Manoj Jogendra Gupta (23),both hailing from Uttar Pradesh. All suspects have been been currently residing in Pune.
As per the release issued by the police,Sharma,Hussain,Gupta and Sahu were allegedly residing at the hotel while the other three were satying in Chinchwad area.
Police have launched a search to arrest them. Meanwhile,the suspects were produced before a magistrate court on Tuesday which remanded them in police custody till November 30.
Investigation is on to arrest the kingpin,Shakti Thapa. We are also probing the role of hotel management in the case. A suspect worked as a hotel manager and also operated the sex racket. Most of the girls arrested hail from West Bengal. The modus operandi of these girls and agents is also being probed, said Patil.
