The Serum Institute of India sucessfully bid for the Shivneri Lions,a team in the Maharashtra Premier League (MPL),in the second auction held on Sunday.
The winning bid, which was Rs 87.5 lakh, was enough to beat the five other contenders, namely Green Chillies Entertainment,Indian Construction Limited,Piranha Pvt Ltd,Pinnacle Group and PN Gadgil Group, which had the second nearest bid at Rs 85 lakh.
The auction, which lasted an hour, was a clean auction, with the bids starting at Rs 5 lakhs. The original auction for the team had taken place on October 16,with the winners,Vitthal Corporation, required to make the payment on or before October 20. However, with the group not meeting the demands, the MPL committee that subsequently overlooked the proceeding, had fixed the date for the auction on Sunday.
Ramesh Patil, who represented the winning bidders at the auction said,We are delighted to have the team back. Now we have to concentrate on rebuilding the team with the same enthusiasm as it was in the first year.
