Senior citizens can now take a break — at MTDC resorts

Senior citizens have a reason to cheer.

Senior citizens have a reason to cheer. The Maharashtra Tourism Development Corporation (MTDC) has decided to offer them a 20 per cent concession on room rates at its resorts running at 19 popular tourist destinations in the state.

Veterans, who have attained the age of 65,are eligible to take benefit of the initiative that includes tourist hot spots in Konkan region and hill stations like Mahabaleshwar and Matheran among other famous places.

Offering concession to senior citizens at MTDC resorts is one of the provisions incorporated in the state’s draft policy for elderly people.

The senior citizens can avail the concession from Monday to Thursday at the resorts solely managed by the MTDC and not the sponsored ones.

“Our initiative aims to spread joy in the life of senior citizens who are living the twilight phase of their life. More and more senior citizens should take benefit of our scheme. The scheme is a part of our continuing efforts to increase the influx towards tourist destinations in Maharashtra,” MTDC regional manager (Pune) Nayana Gurav Bondarde told Newsline on Sunday.

The senior citizens can avail the concession at MTDC resorts through advance booking only. They need to furnish a document showing proof of age — such as senior citizens identity card, passport, election card or Aadhar card — during advance booking. The travellers would need to carry with them the original age-proof document during the journey.

Commenting on the MTDC’s scheme,a representative of the All India Senior Citizen Confederation,Ramanbhai Shaha, said it was a good move that could facilitate enjoyable tours to veterans. “Besides offering concession, authorities should also ensure senior citizens get adequate services to make their tour memorable,” he said.
