The SHIV Sena has demanded the Khadki Cantonment Board ( KCB) to take action against any elected members who stays in an unauthorised construction. There are some cantonment members who have raised illegal constructions and the Cantonment Act is clear that such cantonment board members should be expelled from the membership of the board, said Sachin Aher vice-president,Khadki Cantonment Board unit of Shiv Sena. On Saturday,Shiv Sena workers assembled outside the cantonment board gate and went on a day-long hunger strike. They later submitted the memorandum of demands to the Cantonment Board chief executive officer who assured them action. Apart from action against the elected members who were living in unathorised areas in cantonment, the Shiv Sena members also alleged the cantonment board has failed to improve the condition of the cantonment bus stand. The bus stop is riddled with potholes and in the past two months two people have died in accidents at the bus stand. The cantonment board has failed to improve the condition of the bus stand even as there is a proposal pending for a long time, said Aher. KCB has also delayed the construction of 71-seater toilets within the cantonment area. He said the work, which has been going on for the past six months, was slated to be complete within three months time. If the cantonment board fails to take any action on our demands,we will be forced to launch an agitation, he said. Flouting the rules, the KCB has also allowed cow slaughter within the cantonment area,he said.
