To discuss issues such as schools not getting non-salary grants since 2004,grants not being disbursed to schools that have been removed from the permanently non-grant schools, headmasters from across the state will hold a three-day conference in Nagpur from October 30 to November 2.
At a press conference held here in the city on Monday to announce the conference, headmasters said that so far a major problem had been the absence of a state wide body to represent all the districts of the state .
Now a body called Akhil Maharashtra Madhyamik,Uchhmadhyamik Sanyukt Mandal has been formed that will include 16 districts of western Maharashtra (including Konkan) and 19 districts from Vidarbha and Marathwada.
Pramod Nimade from the Western Maharashtra School Headmasters Association said,So far there was an association that had representatives from very few districts and would arbitrarily decide on issues concerning the entire state. Now it will be a more balanced and representational structure. As the charity commissioner has recognised us (Western Maharashtra School Headmasters Association ),we will also be affiliated to the statewide body.
Raosaheb Awari, founder president of the forum of Akhil Maharashtra Madhyamik,Uchhmadhyamik Sanyukt Mandal said,While the word permanent has been removed from the non-grant schools as per the government resolutions over the last few years, making them eligible for applying for grants in the long run,no work in this direction has been done yet. We have been promised that the grants will be given from 2012 onwards, but we dont know for sure yet.
Elaborating on the issue of non-salary grants he that a large number of schools in the state have been function with the bare minimum of just the teachers salaries. Infrastructure has gone for a toss as no aids have been given since 2004 for furniture, maintenance of school buildings and so on.
