The Pune police team investigating the Porsche crash case have informed a Pune court that two doctors and a hospital employee who have been accused of changing the blood sample of the minor suspect accepted money from his family as bribes for the illegal act.
The three accused—Dr Ajay Taware, head of the Sassoon Hospital’s forensic department, chief medical officer Dr Shrihari Harnol, 38, and Atul Ghatkamble, 30, a Class V employee at the hospital—were produced at the court on Monday by police with a request for their custody for 10 days.
The police submitted to the court that they wanted to confront all the accused involved in alleged destruction of the evidence and interrogate them.
“It’s important to know whose blood sample was taken and sent for alcohol testing after throwing off the minor’s blood. Also, it’s been revealed that there was an exchange of money as bribes between the accused doctors and family members of the minor. Hence it’s important that the homes of the arrested doctors and the staff are inspected and for recovery of the bribe amount,” said Sunil Tambe, assistant commissioner of police, who is investigating the case.
The police also argued that they were yet to collect CCTV footage from the hospital to determine people who may have visited the accused persons before and after the commission of this crime.
As per the police, Dr Harnol collected the minor’s blood samples and threw them in a dustbin at the Sassoon Hospital. Then as a part of a criminal conspiracy involving Dr Taware, the blood sample of another person was taken and sent to the forensic lab with the minor’s name on it, added Kumar.

The three have booked under sections 120B (criminal conspiracy), 467 (forgery), 201 (destruction of evidence), 213 (taking gift or something else to screen an offender from punishment) and 214 (offering gift or restoration of property to screen an offender) of the Indian Penal Code.
After Aneesh Awadhiya and Ashwini Koshta were killed in the Pune Porsche crash at the Kalyani Nagar junction early on May 19, an FIR against the minor boy was lodged around 8 am at the Yerwada police station. The boy was taken to Sassoon Hospital for a medical examination and his blood samples were taken around 11 am.
