This is not the first time that students in the state will get to study the life history of a cricketer as part of their syllabus.
With the Maharashtra government adding a chapter on Sachin Tendulkar in the school syllabus, Class IV students in the state would now get to learn about the iconic cricketer as part of their curriculum from this academic year.
“A chapter on Sachin has been included in Marathi and English textbooks,” Maharashtra School Education Minister Rajendra Darda told PTI, adding: “The government was considering adding Tendulkar in school syllabus so that children are inspired by him.”
This is not the first time that students in the state will get to study the life history of a cricketer as part of their syllabus.
Chandrakant Gulabrao “Chandu” Borde and Sunil Gavaskar have found themselves in the pages of school syllabi earlier.
Darda said the Balbharati subject committee discussed the matter and decided in which class should the chapter be introduced.
Meanwhile, the Raj Thackeray-led Maharashtra Navnirman Sena claimed credit for the development, saying it was MNS that had sought inclusion of a chapter on Tendulkar in school textbooks.
