Elections to manage the Royal Western India Turf Club (RWITC),took an interesting turn with the entry of Khushroo Dhunjibhoy, former RWITC chairman, into the contest. The elections to the nine-member committee will be held in Mumbai on Thursday. Vivek Jain, chairman of RWITC,said: Elections this time has taken an interesting turn with the presence of some extra candidates. Jain, forecasts the year ahead as a challenging one for the club. Amongst other things,Id like to focus on the reduction of taxes. The whole committee works jointly on issues; its never a one-man job, he said. Dhunjibhoy, who has decided to contest the elections after a gap of four years, wants to be on the committee to implement the plans he has for the club. I had been on the committee for 19 years. I wanted to take a break,so I did. Now,I feel like coming back, he said. Speaking about he contesting the elections,Dhunjibhoy said,See,everybody is very critical of those in the chair. No doubt they have done certain good things but I can add to that. Like Jain,Dhunjibhoy believes in team work. At the end of the day,its about friends working together, he added. Citing examples of Singapore,Hong Kong,Dubai and their world class race facilities,he said,Even though,India has progressed our race course is still what the British left us with. Everybody appreciates our breeding industry but its time to move to the next level. We cant forever remain stuck in the hole. So,I hope I can do something in to change it. Commenting on Dhunjibhoy contesting the election,Jain said,It is difficult for me to comment on it,since,I am a contesting. But its an election - anybody can win or lose. RWITC has almost 1,900 voters and the voting will be open from 11 am to 8 pm today.
