Puneites top among those who ‘live for the moment’: survey

The survey was done over a period of five months — January to May — with a sample size of nearly 1,200 respondents who responded to a web-based questionnaire.

CaptureAs per the findings of a recently-released survey done in seven major cities — Mumbai, Delhi, Kolkata, Chennai, Hyderabad, Bengaluru and Pune — that aims to understand ‘What phrase best describes your attitude towards debt/borrowing money?’, Puneites rank highest among those who believe in the phrase ‘live for the moment; debts can be repaid another day’.

While 9.92 per cent Pune respondents confessed that they believe in living for the moment, Mumbai comes last among the seven cities with just 2.87 per cent Mumbaikars agreeing with the phrase.

The survey, titled Ginger Bucket List Study 2015, was done by Ginger Hotels to understand the priorities of Indians. The study analyses the life-goals, the choices and preferences of both men and women in India, across generations and regions.

Other than the phrase, ‘live for the moment; debts can be repaid another day’, the other phrases given as a choice to the respondents covered under the survey are — ‘Money’s not only for me but for my family and those I love; they come first’, ‘Some days I have money, some days I don’t; I never borrow but I never worry either’, and ‘You have to accumulate to prosper; I save now for a future that’s prosperous’.

Commenting on the trend, city-based software professional, Mukund Vishwakarma, said, “Among the four phrases, I associate the most with ‘Live for the moment; debts can be repaid another day’. I think we get one life and we should live to the maximum. Earning money is in our hands; we can always put in more efforts, earn more and repay loans etc.”

Other findings reveal that 17.07 per cent Puneites travel once a month — the highest among the seven cities. At 24.79 per cent, Puneites rank the highest among other cities that believe ‘You have to accumulate to prosper; I save now for a future that’s prosperous’.
