As the city gears up for the new year bash, a pub has stoked a controversy after it reportedly sent condoms and Oral Rehydration Solution (ORS) to its regular invitees for the party. The opposition Congress has sought strict action against the organisers.

Akshay Jain of Maharashtra Pradesh Youth Congress said, “It has come to our notice that a pub has sent an invitation to its regular customers which contains condom and ORS. This act is against the educational and cultural tradition of Pune city. This will send wrong message among youths and is likely to encourage wrong things. This act of cheap publicity will damage the image of the city. Strict action should be taken against the organiser.”

A senior officer from Pune city police said, “We have received the complaint letter from the office bearer of Maharashtra Youth Congress. After getting the complaint, the local police station issued a notice to the organisers of the event. They were called for questioning. The organisers shared with us the advertisement they had made highlighting safe celebration of New Year. Further inquiry in the case is on. No case has been registered till now.”

The organisers could not be contacted for comment, despite repeated efforts.
