244 laptops stolen from godown in Wagholi recovered, employee among 3 arrested

A court sent the accused to police custody for three days for further investigation. Assistant police inspector Yogesh Khatke is investigating the case.

The Pune city police arrested three people in connection with the theft of as many 280 laptops of a prominent brand from a godown in Wagholi.

Police identified the accused as Suresh Mahadev Kumar (35), a native of Sahapur in Uttar Pradesh, Shivaji Jagannath Vasu (27) of Gangapur in Chhatrapati Sambhaji Nagar and Kumud Ranjan Jha (32) of Wagholi.

An FIR filed at the Wagholi police station on October 15 stated 280 laptops of Lenovo, worth Rs 1.09 crores, were stolen from the godown of Arcline Logistics and Warehousing Private Limited Company.

The company officials, who lodged the FIR, named a worker Suresh Kumar as accused. Police said Kumar was employed at the company two months before and went missing after the theft was reported.

Senior police officers, including additional commission Manoj Patil, deputy commissioner (zone 4) Himmat Jadhav, assistant commissioner Pranjali Sonawane and senior police inspector Pandit Rejitwad, visited the crime scene for investigation.

Police checked videos captured by CCTV cameras at different spots and also started gathering information about Kumar. Based on clues obtained by police havaldar Ajit Farande and constable Amol Dhone, a police team laid a trap and nabbed Kumar and his two aides at Walunj MIDC, Chhatrapati Sambhaji Nagar, on October 17.

During investigation, police recovered 244 stolen laptops from nine people. Police have also seized two pickup vans and three cell phones recovered from the accused.

Police said the accused were selling the stolen laptops to some people. Police have detained four suspected buyers of stolen laptops for further probe.
