Pune: Newly married man killed in mishap day after his 25th birthday

The mishap took place around 7.30 am when the bus was ferrying employees of a private engineering firm in Bhosari.

A newly-married man, who was on his way home after a night shift, was killed early on Tuesday when a private bus knocked down his bike, not far from his house in Dighi. The deceased, Prashant Babaram Dhebe, had just turned 25 on Monday, the police said.

Dhebe was a resident of Shivganesh Colony in Dighi and worked for a private company in Chakan MIDC area. The Dighi police have arrested bus driver Chhatrapati Baburao Makhane (35), who is originally from Palam taluka in Parbhani district of Maharashtra.

“As per the primary investigation, Dhebe’s bike was hit by the bus from behind and he fell down due to the impact. Despite wearing a helmet, he sustained injuries as he landed on his head very hard. The accident took place not far from his house as some of the residents immediately informed his brother and uncle about the accident. He was rushed to a nearby hospital where he was declared brought dead,” Sub-Inspector Rajendra Kamble of the Dighi police station said.

Kamble added, “We have arrested the driver of the private bus. We have come to know that Dhebe got married just four months ago and it was his birthday on Monday. His family members had planned a celebration on Tuesday because he was on night duty on Monday.”
