Pune coaching class teacher gets 20 years’ jail for raping 11-year-old student in 2021

An investigation had revealed that the teacher who ran a private coaching class at his residence had raped and sexually abused the 11-year-old victim multiple times between August and October 2021, threatening to murder her sister.

The accused was booked under the Protection of Children from Sexual Offences (Pocso) Act at a police station under Pune City Police in October 2021.

The sensitive case was investigated by the then Assistant Inspector Sudha Chaudhari, who has now been posted with the Mumbai police on promotion as Police Inspector. A chargesheet in the case was filed before the court in a stipulated time frame.

A Special Court for Pocso cases on Tuesday found the teacher guilty of rape, unnatural offences, and criminal intimidation under the Indian Penal Code as well as various provisions of the Pocso Act.

The court also fined the accused Rs 37,000, under the stipulation that failure to pay the fine would result in an additional sentence of nine months.

Advocate Nitin Kondhe served as the Public Prosecutor for the case.

Deputy Commissioner of Police (Zone 5) Rajkumar Shinde who oversaw the investigation, has announced a police reward for Inspector Sudha Chaudhari and Constable Dinesh Jadhav of the prosecution branch for taking the highly sensitive case to a logical end.
