Polls over,leaders shun their websites

If constituencies are most visited during elections, the websites of city politicians seem to share a similar fate.

If constituencies are most visited during elections, the websites of city politicians seem to share a similar fate. While the last time city MP Suresh Kalmadi went online was in May last year — thanking voters for his Lok Sabha win,Vikas Mathkari’s website still proudly says that he has got the BJP ticket from Shivaji Nagar constituency — almost a year after the event. And if the ‘latest news’ on MP Supriya Sule’s website is the October 2009 Assembly poll results,Sena-BJP MLA from Parvati constituency Madhuri Misal is still urging visitors to punch her Lotus symbol on October 13,2009!

In his ‘most recent’ posting on http:// blog.sureshkalmadi.org/,dated May 20,2009,Kalmadi thanks voters, saying,“I thank all of you,my fellow Punekars, for reposing your faith in me once again. I assure you that as always,I will continue to work for my constituency to the best of my ability. The case is no different on his twitter account, KalmadiSuresh http://api.twitter.com/kalmadisuresh,where the last post — on April 21,2009 — is “Campaigning is over. Voting in Pune on 23rd”. The ‘latest news’ on Congress MP Supriya Sule’s website is the Assembly poll results with a post in which she thanks farmers of Baramati in Marathi for her win.

However, she is one blogging step ahead of Kalmadi with one more post dated November 6,2009 on her NABARD visit that starts with the confession,“It’s been a while since I last blogged…”

With a bandwagon of photographs of Balasaheb Thackerey,Atal Bihari Vajpayee,LK Advani,Gopinath Munde,Nitin Gadkari,Uddhav Thackerey and Girish Bapat,Misal’s website looks very much like the official party site during elections. And she is still diligently asking voters to go out and click on the Lotus on October 13,2009. Though the link to voters’ list in her constituency is still active, contact and latest updates tags do not even respond to clicks anymore.

At http://www.vikasmathkari.com,the line that encircles the orange-hued website of the BJP man talks of his win in the Shivajinagar constituency. Except for a post on February 11,2010,Mathkari’s comments dates back to October 8,2009,when he discusses the Assembly polls under the head — Why this election is critical to Pune?

The schedule of Rohit Tilak’s public rally on October 9 and 10,2009,still flash on the homepage of his website http://www.rohittilak.com . Besides this, the website also boasts of slogans like Kasbyache heet Rohit rohit,(Rohit is the future for the good of Kasba).

Mandar Ranjekar, personal assistant to Madhuri Misal who looks after her website, said it had been set up as a platform for interaction with citizens during election time and was now being redesigned. “Within 10-15 days, the new website with recent photographs, initiatives taken in wards uploaded on the web page will be ready.” While Kalmadi could not be contacted, his spokesperson said “lack of time” might be preventing the MP from updating his posts.
