With a smile on their lips and a spring in their stride,as many as 300 grandparents came calling at the Grandparents’ Day at SNBP School in Morwadi area of Pimpri, recently. It was the second successive year when the school,in an unsual gesture, honoured grandparents of the pre-primary section at a colourful function.

As the grandparents stepped into the premises of the school, the teachers ensured that they received a warm welcome. The grandparents mingled and interacted with each other. They walked down the memory lane and shared the experiences of their respective lives. “Right from the word go,the atmosphere was one of joy and heart-to-heart talk,” said the teachers.

The school made various efforts to ensure that the grand-parents got special treatment. It did not stop at welcoming them with pride, but even the honours for inaugurating the programme went to a grandparent couple,Abasaheb Abu Attar and his wife, who spent a major part of their life in the teaching profession in various schools. The function started with senior KG students chanting shlokhas, expressing their feelings about their most loved grandparents in English as well as in Marathi. The teachers too highlighted the important role that grandparents play in moulding the base of their children. “No other school has honoured grand-parents and given such opportunity to visit their grand-child’s school. SNBP school has really made a day for us,” said a grand-parent.

Dr Vrushali Bhosale, president of SNBP School, and principals of different sections of the school were present on the occasion.
