Hundreds of passengers on SpiceJet flight SG 184 from Pune to Delhi were left stranded for around 12 hours following multiple reschedules and a sudden cancellation on Wednesday. The cancellation led to panic as SpiceJet informed passengers that the next available flights were on Thursday, with only four to five seats available per flight. Many passengers, desperate to reach their destination, opted for a full refund and booked last-minute tickets with other airlines, some paying exorbitant amounts.

G Prasanna, one of the stranded passengers, shared that he was unable to stand in queue for refunds or alternative bookings due to a prior accident and health issues. Instead, he took to Twitter, tagging the Directorate General of Civil Aviation, the Ministry of Civil Aviation, and other authorities to highlight the situation.

Prasanna said after the public outcry, SpiceJet made an announcement of a special flight at around 10:30 pm with an alternate flight scheduled at 1:50 am on Thursday to accommodate the stranded passengers. “However, the process of retrieving checked-in baggage and re-checking in was chaotic, with only a handful of airline staff managing the situation. Passengers, who had been waiting for hours without food or water, were finally offered a meal pack at 11:30 pm,” said Prasanna.
