After 52 years of the Panshet flood,3,988 affected people would be allotted the houses they had been living in on lease and they would be named as the owners of lessee holders on their property cards,a government resolution issued on Thursday read.
Major parts of the city were devastated after the Panshet dam developed cracks, which led to its breakage in 1961. The government had provided houses to those affected by the flood in the 13 colonies of Erandavane (398 dwellings),Dattawadi (898),Parvati Darshan (1,186 ),Shiv Darshan (500),Bhavani Peth (82),Janwadi (376) and Health Camp Pandavnagar (348) and Senadatt (200) areas.
Panshet Poorgrasta Samiti led by Mangesh Kharate, along with MLC Mohan Joshi, followed up the case with rehabilitation minister Patangrao Kadam and revenue minister Balasaheb Thorat.
The victims have to pay for the houses, and of the 3,988 flood affected people,677 people are yet to make the payment. They have been granted an extension of three months to pay the dues so that they can attain ownership. Joshi said the cause of delay cited was that the government had stopped accepting money after 1991. Kharate informed that the 677 people would have to pay the amount decided as per the ready reckoner rates on January 1,1976,in the next three months, said Joshi.
The extra construction carried out by the victims in open spaces around their houses will be regularised,as per a government resolution issued on April 4,2002. As many as 117 societies were formed after the Panshet disaster. All these societies were on lease for 99 years.
