After a dismal performance,several city candidates would have to forfeit their security deposits to the Election Commission. Of the total 137 candidates,more than 100 candidates have to forfeit their security deposits. With the EC rule mentioning that if a candidate fails to garner one sixth of the total votes polled,they would stand to lose their deposits. Candidates contesting the assembly polls had to deposit a sum of Rs 5,000 at the time of filing their nominations. NCP candidate from Kothrud Anna Joshi,BJP candidate from Khadakwasla Murlidhar Mohol,senior corporator Ujjwal Keskar,who fought the elections as an independent candidate,Independent Deepak Mankar and CPI(M) candidate from Parvati Kiran Moghe will all have to forfeit their deposit amount. All candidates from BSP,as well the third front and Hindu Mahasabha,stand to lose their security deposits. Interestingly,candidates of Maharashtra Navnirman Sena,which was contesting for the time,managed to save their deposits.
